Placement makes or breaks the hit. Corners, wall junctions, and entry points — not the middle of the room.
Wood rats, Norway rats, and roof rats cause structural damage, contaminate food, and spread disease. Final Blox Rodenticide (brodifacoum) is the professional-standard single-feed anticoagulant — one feeding is a lethal dose. This is the protocol that works on the worst infestations.
Before deploying any bait, remove all competing food sources. Secure trash cans, eliminate pet food left out overnight, seal compost bins, and clean up fallen fruit. Rats with competing food will ignore bait stations.
Bait acceptance is directly proportional to how hungry they are. Make the Final Blox the only food available.
Place Final Blox Rodenticide (18 lb, brodifacoum 0.005%) in tamper-resistant bait stations. For rats: 5–22 blocks per placement, spaced every 15–30 feet along walls and near burrows. Always against a wall — holes facing the wall.
Rats are neophobic (fear of new objects). Pre-bait empty stations for 3–5 days before loading Final Blox to build trust.

Collect and dispose of carcasses with gloves — dead rats can still transmit disease. After population is eliminated, seal all entry points with copper mesh (Stuf-It) — rats cannot chew through it.
Do not seal entries while rats are still active — they will die inside and create odor problems. Clear the population first.

Inject Termidor Foam directly into every active tunnel. The foam expands to fill the full bore channel — eggs, larvae, and adults sheltering inside are eliminated on contact. Fipronil leaves a residual kill zone inside the wood for weeks.
Pro move: treat at dusk when bees are settled inside the hole.

Keep pets and children clear during application. Do not spray near water sources — Fipronil is highly toxic to aquatic invertebrates. Wear nitrile gloves and eye protection when mixing concentrate.
Termites and powderpost beetles are slow killers. A $10 bag of Borax protects a $50,000 deck — and when you need the heavy stuff, Borate is still the industry standard DIYers use instead of paying for a fumigation tent.
1 lb of Borax dissolved into 1 gallon of hot water. Stir until fully dissolved. Apply with a sprayer or brush while wood is bare and accessible.
Water carries borate deep into wood fibers. Once it evaporates, borate crystals remain permanently embedded. When a termite or beetle bites in, it's their last meal — the toxin disrupts their gut bacteria, causing starvation.
Crawl spaces, basement joists, attic framing, exterior trim before painting, and any bare wood near soil contact. One treatment lasts decades if kept dry.
Low toxicity to mammals. Keep pets and kids clear during application and until dry. Once dry, crystals are locked in the wood — no ongoing exposure risk.
Boric acid and Borax are low-risk for humans but moderately toxic to dogs and cats if ingested in quantity. Always deploy bait stations in sealed containers or locations inaccessible to pets. Diatomaceous Earth is physically irritating to lungs — wear a dust mask on application and ventilate the room.
