Every contract on the Hit List assumes you have the right equipment. Pesticides without protection aren't pest control — they're exposure events. This is the complete field kit: what's required, what's recommended, and what makes the job faster.

The Non-Negotiables

Before pulling any chemical contract: nitrile gloves and eye protection are the absolute floor. For rodenticides, mold treatments, and anything with sodium hypochlorite or Fipronil — add a respirator. A N95 for dust and particles, an organic vapor respirator for liquid chemicals. The contracts tell you when to escalate.

Respiratory Protection

Mold spores, pesticide vapors, rodenticide dust, and DE particles are all lung hazards. The right filter matters — a dust mask does nothing against vapor, and a vapor cartridge does nothing against fine particulates.

Filters 95% of airborne particles ≥0.3 microns — mold spores, DE dust, fiberglass, dried pesticide residue. NIOSH-approved. Tight seal required — no beard gap.

Half-Face Respirator + OV/P100 Cartridges
Dual-cartridge half-face respirator with OV (organic vapor) + P100 combination cartridges. Blocks both chemical vapors and particulates. Reusable — replace cartridges every 6 months or when you detect odor through the mask.
Use for: Fipronil/Termidor application, RMR-86 mold treatment, herbicide concentrate mixing, any enclosed-space chemical work, rodent/bat cleanup in attics.

Eye & Skin Protection

Eyes are the most vulnerable surface during chemical work. Standard safety glasses are insufficient for spray applications — chemical splash goggles create a seal. For skin, nitrile is chemical-resistant where latex is not.

Indirect-vent sealed goggles that create a full-perimeter seal around the eye. Anti-fog coating. Fits over prescription glasses. Essential for any spray application — safety glasses do not seal against splash.

Sprayers & Application Tools

The right applicator makes the difference between a wasted product and a successful operation. A $12 pump sprayer handles 90% of jobs. A backpack sprayer handles the other 10%. A bulb duster is the only proper way to apply boric acid and DE in wall voids.

Hand-squeeze bellows duster for applying boric acid, diatomaceous earth, and insecticide dust into wall voids, cracks, baseboards, and electrical outlets. The only way to achieve a light, even coverage that actually works — pouring from a bag produces excessive buildup that repels rather than kills.

Red-Filter Headlamp
Red light is invisible to insects and does not trigger the defensive behavior of wasps or bats. Essential for night-time wasp nest operations. Leaves both hands free. A standard headlamp on a wasp nest at night will get you stung.
Use for: Night-time wasp and hornet nest treatment, bat observation and removal (bats cannot see red light), any low-light operation requiring hands-free illumination.

Dehumidifier (30–50 pint)
The single most cost-effective mold and pest prevention tool for basement and crawl space operations. Mold cannot grow below 50% relative humidity. Silverfish and centipedes require high moisture environments. A dehumidifier solves both problems at the source.
Use after: Indoor mold treatment, silverfish operations, centipede operations, earwig control — keeps humidity below 50% RH, eliminating the environment these pests require.

Trapping & Exclusion Hardware

Trapping without exclusion is an endless cycle. Exclusion without removing the existing population first creates die-offs inside walls. The sequence matters: remove, then seal.

Stuf-It Copper Mesh
Rodents cannot chew through copper mesh — the natural oxide forms a sharp edge that deters gnawing. Stuff into gaps, openings, and pipe penetrations. Use with foam sealant for a permanent seal. Far more effective than steel wool, which rusts and compresses over time.
Use for: Sealing entry points after rodent elimination, closing gaps around pipes and conduits, any structural exclusion operation for rats, mice, and squirrels.

Hardware Cloth (¼" mesh, galvanized)
Galvanized steel ¼-inch mesh for sealing vents, soffits, crawl space openings, and any structural gap larger than ½ inch. Squirrels require ¼-inch mesh — larger mesh allows passage. Cut with tin snips, secure with staples or screws and washers.
Use for: Squirrel exclusion over soffits and vents, crawl space vent covers, chimney cap mesh, any opening requiring permanent rodent-proof barrier.

Great Stuff Pest Block Expanding Foam
Expanding foam sealant specifically formulated with capsaicin — an irritant that discourages rodents from chewing through the foam. Use over copper mesh for a two-layer seal. Standard Great Stuff foam can be chewed through; Pest Block resists gnawing.
Use after: Stuffing copper mesh into gaps — foam over the mesh creates a pest-resistant, weatherproof seal. Use at pipe penetrations, foundation gaps, and utility entry points.
